چکیده

Current studies lack probabilistic evaluations on the performance of fault-crossing bridges. This paper conducts seismic fragility analyses to evaluate cable-stayed bridges with effects fault ruptures. Synthetic across-fault ground motions are generated using existing simulation methods for low-frequency pulses and high-frequency residuals. Incremental dynamic analysis is utilized generate responses bridge. The optimal intensity measure (IM) a bridge that crosses identified based coefficient determination (R2). Root-mean-square velocity (Vrms) found be best IM traversed by ruptures, instead commonly used ones such as peak acceleration or (PGA PGV). Fragility curves critical components bridges, including pylons, cables, bearings, developed Vrms, subsequently compared those near faults. Results show bearings transition piers most vulnerable component because rotation their girder. Compared faults, pylons more in transverse direction crossing whereas vulnerability cables comparable.

Linear Analysis of Ordinary Bridges Crossing Fault-Rupture Zones

Rooted in structural dynamics theory, two approximate procedures for estimating peak responses of linearly elastic “ordinary” bridges crossing fault-rupture zones are presented: response spectrum analysis RSA procedure and a linear static analysis procedure. These procedures estimate the peak response by superposing peak values of quasi-static and dynamic responses. The peak quasi-static resp...

Nonlinear Analysis of Ordinary Bridges Crossing Fault-Rupture Zones

Rooted in structural dynamics theory, three approximate procedures for estimating seismic demands for bridges crossing fault-rupture zones and deforming into their inelastic range are presented: modal pushover analysis MPA, linear dynamic analysis, and linear static analysis. These procedures estimate the total seismic demand by superposing peak values of quasi-static and dynamic parts. The p...

Elastic-plastic Seismic Behavior of Long Span Cable-stayed Bridges

This paper investigates the elastic-plastic seismic behavior of long span cable-stayed steel bridges through the plane finite-element model. Both geometric and material nonlinearities are involved in the analysis. The geometric nonlinearities come from the stay cable sag effect, axial force-bending moment interaction, and large displacements. Material nonlinearity arises when the stiffening ste...

Motion Based Design of Cable-Stayed Bridges

Recent increases in limit spans of cable-stayed bridges have highlighted the need for new concepts in analysis and design. The increased flexibility requires more theoretical studies on non-linear behavior and on dynamic analysis. Design also is more oriented to a performance-based approach: motion control is more important than strength analysis. My main objective is to define what are the par...
